We had a holiday party at work today that included a cookie bake-off. As I have mentioned a few times before, cookie recipes aren't really my strong suit, so I had to kill it on my decorations. I decided to make little cinnamon/sugar company logo cookies.
I rolled out the batter and cut it into strips. I folded to the strips into the logo shape and then stuck them in the oven. It took me a few tries to get this right. My first batch rose too much and I lost the hole and the detail of the shape. The strips in my second batch were too skinny. I finally got the Goldilocks formula with about 3/4'' strips of dough. I pipe using a Ziplock bag. I like Ziplocks rather than piping tips because I can cut a really tiny hole in the bag to achieve really fine piping.
Alas, I did not win the competition--I was up against some amazingly delicious treats: caramel chocolate cookies, peanut butter cups, coconut balls, etc. I didn't even vote for myself as I devoured everyone else's scrumptious creations. We have a very talented company of bakers! And despite not beating the peanut butter cups, I think everyone really enjoyed my cookies and loved the logo motifs!
The whole experience reminded me of a Christmas cookie bake-off that my friends and I had in graduate school. As usual, my cookie recipe was not good enough to win (I really have to work on this), but decorating was so much fun! I'll do a throw-back post on this next week.
Whoa. These are super cool! :)
